Soma and Superwind wind generators

We have sold a lot of wind turbines since we started business. Most have proven to be a huge disappointment. Most have had short lives and most have failed, some didn't work from new. We have fixed (often at our own expense) some of these and refunded or replaced (again at our own expense) others. If you fit a cheap wind generator you either risk breakage or worse. I have seen blades from cheap wind generators imbedded in the side of a house!

If you want a really good wind turbine choose either the Superwind or the Soma as detailed below. Both units have long guarantees and both are almost indestructible. We have learn 't the hard way what is good and what is not and we sell both these products with confidence. We have installed these, can demonstrate these and know these wind turbines will work.

Look at the following installations:

Superwind turbine

Superwind Turbine

This Superwind turbine is on the west coast of Tasmania at a radio relay station on a mountain top. It was fitted after the previous unit failed repeatedly. The previous unit suffered electronic failure, blade failure and hub failure.

This site is extreme, often (like every month) this site gets gale and storm force winds, sleet, hail and heavy rain.

This Superwind turbine works faultlessly and is standing the test of time. It has already outlasted several cheaper versions.

We have another nearby but in slightly less extreme conditions on a Bass Straight Island. Again it is working where others have failed.

The secret to the outstanding durability is the quality of construction and the variable pitch blades. The variable pitch blade unit is identical to units fitted to wind turbines on commercial wind farms.

To put it bluntly: You get what you pay for!

This unit is available in 12, 24 or 48 volt versions with a maximum output of 350 watts.

Superwind turbines are made in Germany

Approximate cost (subject to exchange rates) $2750.00 + controller (if required), tower and cable

12 or 24 volt controller approximately $690.00
48 volt controller - Use PL20 if controller required.

Soma wind generator

Soma Wind Turbine

This turbine is on the east coast of Tasmania. We have another on the west coast of King Island and their are several more scattered across Tasmania. These units are Aussie made quality wind generators, the sort you would expect to see in a quality stand alone power system.

The one on King island has in place for over 10 years. King Island experiences gale and storm force winds often and is a pretty good testing ground for wind generators.

This unit is available in 12, 24, 48 and high voltage in 400 and 1000 watt models and is provided with a controller (except high voltage units).

The high voltage 1000 watt model is suited to grid feed installations when coupled to a Latronics wind turbine module and a Latronics PVE1000 grid interactive inverter.

Approximate cost 400 watt unit $5550.00 + tower and cable
Approximate cost 1000 watt unit $6700.00 + tower and cable

A grid feeding setup by Latronics will add approximately $2800.00

The cost of a professionally installed Soma wind generator can be as high as $20,000.00 depending on tower height and cable length.

You can install these units yourself but they need substantial contrete footings and a safe method of raising and lowering as the wind generation unit weight is around 45 kg.
